Foreign divorce does not dissolve Filipino marriage, DOJ clarifies
The Philippine Department of Justice has clarified that Filipino citizens who obtain divorces abroad remain legally married under Philippine law. Justice Undersecretary Ian Norman Dato explained that foreign divorces cannot be recognised in the Philippines regardless of their validity elsewhere.
